Why we look past the jaw itself
TMJ (temporomandibular joint) dysfunction shows up as clicking, tightness, or pain in the jaw — but the jaw doesn't work in isolation.
It's closely connected to the muscles and joints of the upper neck, and postural habits like forward head posture put extra strain on both. We look at the whole picture — jaw, neck, and posture together — rather than treating the jaw as a standalone problem.
Signs you might be dealing with it
- Clicking or popping when opening or closing your mouth
- Jaw tightness or soreness, especially in the morning
- Pain that spreads into the temple, ear, or neck
- A jaw that feels like it's not tracking evenly
- Jaw tension that seems to worsen with stress or teeth clenching
Relieve, rehab, strengthen — applied to TMJ & jaw pain
Assess
We check the jaw alongside the neck and upper back, since TMJ rarely shows up on its own.
Relieve
Soft tissue work and adjustments to reduce muscle tension and restore more even jaw movement.
Rebuild
Postural and mobility work addressing the neck patterns that are adding strain to the jaw.
What relief actually looks like
"I love Mae! She's a fanatic listener and clinician. She's the best."

Why would a chiropractor treat jaw pain?
Because the jaw joint is mechanically connected to the neck and upper back — tension or misalignment there often shows up as, or worsens, TMJ symptoms. Addressing the whole chain tends to work better than treating the jaw alone.
Is TMJ related to stress and teeth clenching?
Often, yes — clenching adds load to muscles that may already be tense from posture or neck strain. We can't stop the clenching for you, but we can help reduce the tension driving it.
Do I need a night guard for TMJ?
That's a question for your dentist, who can assess your bite and clenching pattern directly — we focus on the muscular and joint side of things, and often work alongside dental care rather than instead of it.
How many visits does TMJ care usually take?
It varies, but many people notice reduced tension and clicking within the first several visits, especially when neck posture is addressed alongside the jaw itself.
